The World Ocean Summit & Expo is an annual global event designed to inspire bold thinking and new partnerships to trigger action that further develops a sustainable ocean economy.
The two-day event, held from 12th-13th March, aims to change the way business is done in the ocean by bringing together the widest cross-section of the ocean community from business and finance, as well as governments, national and international policy-makers, civil society and academia. Over 120 influential decision-makers and more than 1,000 ocean community professionals will gather in Tokyo for the summit.
This year’s agenda will focus on the decarbonisation of shipping, blue food solutions, ocean finance, tackling ocean pollution, offshore-renewable energy, sustainable and regenerative tourism, innovative climate solutions, a sustainable ocean economy, and Marine Protected Areas, amongst other inspiring topics.
Economist Impact, with the support of official host The Nippon Foundation, is hosting the 12th World Ocean Summit in Tokyo in 2025, an event that is designed to promote action to develop a sustainable ocean economy and to encourage new partnerships across industries.
Over 120 speakers are confirmed for the 2025 edition of the summit and include Rebecca Hubbard, director of the High Seas Alliance, Oliver Steeds, director of The Nippon Foundation-Nekton Ocean Census, Gloria Ramos, vice president, Philippines, at Oceana, as well as Elizabeth McLeod, global ocean director at The Nature Conservancy, amongst many other high-profile guests.
The summit in Tokyo will continue action-based conversations on the key themes from recent World Ocean Summits, as well as provide a vital opportunity for participants from Asia to engage with the global ocean community ahead of the United Nations Oceans Conference in June 2025. Alongside presentations and talks, panel discussions, innovation showcases, and investment hubs, the agenda will also include a series of interactive ‘how to’ workshops to “generate tangible action points and key takeaways to enable organisations to instigate change and make an impact on the journey towards a healthier ocean”, according to the summit’s website.
