Álvaro Herrero, aka Mekan, is a Spanish underwater photographer with over 6,000 dives and 19 years of experience. Trained in deep and cave diving, he has worked across the globe—from Southeast Asia to Mexico—capturing award-winning images. His photography has earned top honours, including recognition from Wildlife Photographer of the Year and Red Bull Illume. Beyond photography, Álvaro is a passionate ocean conservationist, collaborating with NGOs and leading marine expeditions. Through his imagery and education, he aims to inspire respect for the ocean and promote its protection.
