"On the Caribbean island of Bonaire, a female brittle star rears up on the tips of its arms on top of a coral to release its eggs, a few nights after the full moon," says Zankl. "The process is synchronised by the moon so that the eggs are fertilised by sperm from males in the open water and a new generation is born."

Solvin Zankl is an award-winning wildlife photographer with a background in marine biology, working professionally since 1998. His fascination with aquatic life has taken him around the world, documenting coastal and underwater species, often focusing on small or overlooked creatures. Known for his distinctive visual storytelling, Solvin creates compelling photo essays that reveal the behaviour and character of wildlife. His images have supported global conservation campaigns, including efforts to protect the Golden Lion Tamarin, and have appeared in National Geographic, GEO, BBC Wildlife, and more. His work has earned numerous accolades, including the German Award for Science Photography.
