Seahorses are among the most charismatic species of fish you could find just about anywhere in the world… let alone in our own backyard, here in the UK. But, despite the common misconception, seahorses are not found only in the tropic but off the coast of Cornwall, too.

Of course, seahorses come with a catalogue of protections and it’s not permitted to go in search of them – unless fully-licensed to do so. But, as Gio Reale – a UK-based PADI AmbassaDiver and video content producer explains in his column this week – should you be lucky enough to stumble across one there are some guidelnes you need to follow…

The first is: No flash photography and no approaching them. The second rule of seahorse spotting is that you don’t talk about seahorse spotting… well, not in detail. Sightings are to be recorded with the Seahorse Trust but do be sure not to let slip in general conversation precisely where you stumbled across these magnificent creatures… there are some bad actors out there looking to add to their aquarium attractions.
