Finalist Fine Art Photographer of the Year

Richard Condlyffe Komodo, Indonesia

8°46'48.0"S 119°42'12.0"E

A ladybug amphipod (Cyproideidae sp.), only 3mm long, rests on a blue sea squirt in the coral reefs of Komodo, Indonesia. These tiny crustaceans are easily overlooked, yet their intricate forms reveal the hidden diversity of reef life. Using a super-macro lens, the photographer isolated the amphipod against the soft coral background, revealing details invisible to the naked eye, including its delicate translucent legs.

Richard Condlyffe is a UK born, US based, underwater photographer. He grew up watching the stunning wildlife documentaries of the BBC and developed a fascination for the oceans at an early age. After leaving a corporate career, Richard now spends much of his time camera in hand, challenging his own creativity and mastery of photography to create eye-catching compositions that allow him to share the beauty and majesty of the underwater world. Richard believes that sharing his work helps people understand and appreciate the oceans, in some small way driving greater recognition of the conservation challenges we face.
