Giacomo d'Orlando Indonesia
"In Indonesia's Demak Regency the coastline has been severely eroded, mangroves that protected the shore have been cut down and replaced by aquaculture ponds, and land subsidence is increasing due to groundwater extraction," explains d'Orlando. "Abdul Latief (62) has been a fisherman for 37 years, but since the sea has moved inland, the wind has become stronger and fish harder to find. His house flooded for the first time in 2008 and since then he has raised it twice, in 2009 and 2019. Today the floods are getting higher but Abdul doesn't have enough money to raise his house again."
