Finalist Fine Art Photographer of the Year
Tim Burgess Queensland, Australia
"When I set off to explore Australia's Sunshine Coast I did not expect to be faced with such contrasting weather," says Burgess. "I was watching the weather forecast closely the days before and knew the swell would be considerable. I made the decision to shoot that morning, even though the conditions were extremely unfavourable. The rain and wind, paired with the light shining down on the spray, created a sense of depth. I like that this dramatic scene stands in stark contrast to the name ‘Sunshine Coast’."

Tim Burgess is an ocean photographer based in Canberra, Australia, known for capturing the wild beauty and quiet power of the sea. Though he lives inland, his deep connection to the ocean drives him to travel frequently to remote coastlines in search of moments where water, light, and wildlife converge. Tim’s imagery reflects a reverence for nature and a keen eye for the subtle drama found in untamed seascapes. Through his work, he invites viewers to experience the raw, immersive energy of the ocean and to see it as both powerful and deeply fragile.
