The Innerview: An evening of ocean exploration - book now
Oceanographic Magazine and Nekton host an evening of ocean exploration at the Royal Geographical Society on 3rd June, featuring five leading ocean voices celebrating the launch of Issue 48 / The Innerview.
Oceanographic Magazine and Nekton will be bringing together some of the world’s most remarkable ocean voices for a special live event in London next week, celebrating the launch of a landmark special edition.
On Wednesday 3rd June, the Royal Geographical Society will play host to an extraordinary evening of storytelling, exploration and discovery, as Oceanographic gathers five acclaimed ocean figures to reflect on a shared question: what happens when we truly enter the ocean?
The event takes its name from the concept at the heart of Oceanographic’s latest special edition — Issue 48 / The Innerview — produced in partnership with Nekton. Just as astronauts describe the Overview Effect, the profound cognitive shift that comes from seeing Earth whole from space, the Innerview speaks to something that happens in the opposite direction: the moment of entering the blue, and what that immersion does to the human mind.
Taking to the stage will be Victor Vescovo, the explorer and submersible pilot who became the first person to reach the deepest point in all five oceans; Steve Backshall, BAFTA-winning naturalist and broadcaster best known for Deadly 60; Helen Czerski, physicist, oceanographer and BBC broadcaster and author of The Blue Machine; Paul Rose, explorer, diver and BBC broadcaster and former Base Commander at Rothera Research Station in Antarctica; and Dr Jyotika Virmani, physical oceanographer and Executive Director of the Schmidt Ocean Institute.
Doors open at 5:30pm, with guests invited to enjoy drinks in the RGS garden and Map Room ahead of the evening’s talks and panel discussion. All attendees will receive a complimentary copy of Issue 48 / The Innerview.
Tickets are priced at £15 per person and must be pre-booked. Oceanographic subscribers attend for free. The event begins at 19:00 BST.
