ABOUT THE IMAGE

“This is a HDR panorama stitching of the Dos Pisos cave system in the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico,” says photographer Martin Broen. “It is pitch black labyrinth of caves and formations that can compete in beauty of decoration with the best gothic churches in the world.”

ABOUT THE IMAGE

“This is a five-shot horizontal panorama trying to capture the size of the mobula ray fever aggregation in La Paz Mexico,” says photographer Martin Broen.

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT THE IMAGE

A split-shot showing the size of a mobula ray fever as it passes below a dive boat. “This image shows the strange patterns, textures and shadows these creatures create underwater,” says photographer Martin Broen.

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT THE IMAGE

“Some of the underwater cave systems in the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico accumulate pockets of tannic acid, generated from the rainfall passing through the jungle,” says photographer Martin Broen. “This tannic Acid acts as a light modifier based on its density, stronger red colour when dense to neon green when lighter. creating the surreal illusion of diving within a rainbow.”

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT THE IMAGE

“This photo was taken after a one-hour scooter ride from the cave entrance, where the “Blue Abyss” sinkhole appears,” says photographer Martin Broen. “The image was taken to showcase both the diver going down into the sinkhole, but also the shape of the cave from where it starts.”

4

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT THE IMAGE

“The alien-like textures of the ‘Hell Bells’ of Cenote Zapote in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico are created by bacteria,” says photographer Martin Broen. “These hollow bell-shaped forms make it feel as if you are exploring a different planet, instead an unknown world below our feet.”

3

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT THE IMAGE

“This frog fish is “fishing” with his lure appendix,” says photographer Martin Broen “I also completely blended into the nearby coral.”

5

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT THE IMAGE

“Jellyfish surround this sunken ship as if they where the souls of those lost aboard,” says photographer Martin Broen.
