Finalist Human Connection Award: People & Planet Ocean
Martin Broen Quintana Roo, Mexico
"Turtle conservation is hard work," says Broen. "The sea turtles that come to the shore to lay their eggs under the cover of darkness have to be mapped and measured, and the eggs have to be collected and transferred to specifically built nests in a protected area. Once hatched 60 days later, the young turtles have to be guided back into the water. I tried to capture the hard work by these amazing people, often volunteers, in this nocturnal long exposure. Only their red headlamps illuminate their busy nighttime routines."
